Using a Towing Service: Knowing What to Do

Getting Your Vehicle Ready In Good Time For Towing

An unexpected breakdown may force you to call for towing services. You may also call a tow truck when you need to transport a vehicle from one point to another during a move. Either way, it is your responsibility to ensure that your vehicle is ready for towing

Before the crew from the towing services company gets to where you are, here are helpful pointers to prepare your vehicle.

1. Disengage the Emergency Brakes

There is a higher risk of damage to your vehicle if you do not disengage the emergency brakes before it is loaded onto the tow truck. The towing service crew will want to confirm this before getting down to work.

2. Close the Windows

Closing all the windows on your vehicle will ensure that no dirt or debris will get inside during the tow. This also includes elements such as rainwater, or hailstorms in the event of a storm.

You also want to keep your windows closed to protect everything inside your vehicle from theft. The towing services company will not be held liable for any such losses.

3. Take Out Your Belongings

Anything from your personal items to any valuables you may have in your vehicle should be taken out before the towing service crew arrives. As already pointed out, the company will not be liable for losses or damages.

Get the Time Right

Doing all the above can take as long as you want it to take. How slow or how fast you go is entirely up to you.

That said, you must keep in mind that for a professional towing services company, response times can be very fast. Your tow truck may be there within minutes. You want to be sure that you are all ready to go by the time the truck arrives to avoid having the crew wait around.

As such, consider how long it will take you to get everything done. When you call the towing services company, ask for an approximation of how long it may take for the truck to arrive. With that information, you can pace yourself accordingly.

It's On You

This prep work does not exactly fall under the scope of work for towing services. The crew will want to arrive, set up and tow away your vehicle, without having to do all this. It is best to ensure that you are all ready by the time they get to your location.
