Using a Towing Service: Knowing What to Do

How To Tell If Your Car Needs To Be Towed

After an accident of any kind, most people think about how quickly they can get out of this position to put it behind them. While that makes total sense, it can also lead to impaired decision making, as not every car will be able to be driven off after a collision or accident. Before you set out back onto the open road in a possibly dangerous vehicle, here are a few things that you should check to see if you need a car towing company provided by your roadside assistance to come and give you a helping hand.

Check All The Warning Lights

Modern cars come with a lot of helpful warning signs that let you know when your car is facing some sort of mechanical, electrical or even hydraulic issue in the engine. These warning lights should always be checked after an accident of any kind and if any of them are flashing or on, then you should definitely call for a car towing company. Just because they are not on does not mean you can drive off either, but that is the first area you should check just to see if there are any serious issues that your car has picked up in the accident.

Driving Out Would Be Difficult

A lot of accidents involve cars going off the road and getting wedged in a ditch or smashed into a tree. While your first instinct is always going to be to try and get out of there, that might cause even more damage to your car. If you don't want to scratch up your car or potentially cause even more damage to the chassis, then you should always call a car towing company to help you get unstuck. While it can be embarrassing, it would be even worse should your car get more damaged getting out of this jam than it did getting in.

Significant Dents

Any sort of significant impressions on the outside of your car should be considered potentially hazardous. You just don't know what part of your car's internals would be affected by a dent of any kind of reasonable size. Also, if any of the airbags in your car get set off by the accident, then you should definitely not drive the car away, and it may not even be legal to do so. Airbags are a required safety device and if your car doesn't have any (due to them being deployed), you could be in danger of not only risking your life but also getting a fine should you be caught.
